Core Competencies for Health Promoters Project

Please visit our Resources section to view the final draft of a paper written for Health Promotion Ontario (HPO) by Brian Hyndman. The purpose of the document is to assess the structure/organization of health promoters and the discipline of public health promoters across Canada for the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). HPO hopes to use this paper as a basis for further work in discipline-specific competencies for health promotion.

Welcome HPO Members!

Health Promotion Ontario – The Voice of Ontario Health Promotion Practitioners

Health Promotion Ontario, known HPOph or just “HPO”, is the constituent society representing Ontario ’s health promoters on the OPHA board of directors. HPO has been active since 1987, and like many constituent societies, we rely on a small but dedicated core of executive members who work on behalf of the membership. The executive and our approximately 100 members have been active in several important initiatives over the past year. In addition to a successful membership drive, we have been involved in the development of core competencies for health promoters, as well as the review of Public Health Standards. On May 10-11, 2007, we will celebrate our 20th Anniversary!
